I think the most underrated weekend activity is - a nap.

You hear people talk about wild weekends at Bintan or going clubbing or -horrors- cleaning the house. But seldom is the humble nap given its due. I dedicate today's blog post to-- the nap.

As a species we dont sleep enough. This is true. If you believe that God made nighttime for sleeping, then maybe we should spend all of it in bed right. For us lucky folks who live near the equator, thats 7 pm to 7 am sleeping. (Don't feel jealous, you of temeperate climate - if u lived in a place with 99% humidity, you'll wanna sleep more too)

But instead, we have this wonderful thing called electricity. And born of it lights, radio, television, computers - all designed to make us spend more time awake. Keeping us tired, making us work.

But the weekend nap - aah! What a thing of beauty. To curl up in the heat of the afternoon after a large lunch (prerequisite for nap), close the curtains, turn on the air con (or fan, for us poor folk) and sink beneath waves of unconsciousness.

The best thing about the Saturday afternoon nap, is that you can wake up, see that its 4 and - wait for it- turn around and go back to sleep! Because its not like you have to sleep early on Saturday night to prepare for work the next day. Thats a condition attached to the Sunday nap. But Saturday, you can sleep all through to Sunday morning if you like. How cool is that?

Yesterday was another very siong rehearsal - 2 to 8 no less, although i didnt get there till three. It was very entertaining, though because we got to see what the wushu and taekwondo people were doing as well.

The kids are getting very tired. I think we peaked too early and now, with the performance a week away, they are only standing in place and delivering lines. Lets hope the adrenalin rush hits them at just about the tech rehearsal, so we can peak again.

On the lighter side of things. here'a a funny my cousin shared with me

Yesterday was a bit madcap, so I gave my blog a miss, but in reality, it was the most eventful day ever. I made a potential $2000 for the company (not for me, I remain as poor as a churchmouse, which is actually quite rich.. but I digress...)

Celebrity Spotting
The celeb of the day was Einstein Christianson. I used to work with him on children's events for IKEA during my internship, and was really pleasantly surprised that he recognsed me and actually came up to say Hi. Of course he has gone on to fame and other "cat-astrophic" things (pun fully intended), but he took my email add and promised to stay in touch, which like most celebrity promises, is writ on water. I'm not blaming him, these celeb people have a lot on their minds.

Rehearsal yesterday was "damn siong", to borrow a beng-ism. The kids are all falling sick because of the demanding schedule and everyone is at breaking point, physically and emotionally. Apparently a few tempers were lost and a few tears shed on Saturday. I now feel the need to over perform my contract and be there every rehearsal, so that I can look out for my babies.

(NB: for those who have no idea what i"m talking about, I am helping to direct the drama segment of a musical for Pioneer Junior College's Opening ceremony. It's good work if you can get it.)

I am a terza rima, which is so spot on accurate, its .... a little weird

I'm terza rima, and I talk and smile.
Where others lock their rhymes and thoughts away
I let mine out, and chatter all the while.

I'm rarely on my own - a wasted day
Is any day that's spent without a friend,
With nothing much to do or hear or say.

I like to be with people, and depend
On company for being entertained;
Which seems a good solution, in the end.

Why do some people have to insist on being right all the time? Whatever reasons, you have - childhood trauma, perfectionist syndrome, dunno what the hell you are doing - we are all wrong some of the time right?

And the next time he comes to me with his poor thing, matyr-like , " poor me, so misunderstood, next time I'll just be quiet" drivel, I'm gonna tell me exactly where he can shove it!

Suck it Up, man!! Be gracious in victory and well as defeat. Or didnt NS teach you that?

- Let use the other brillant idea, which i will not try and usurp as mine and..
- get on with it

Repeat as often as necessary until superiority complex leaves your stupid choleric system.

I wanna talk about the urban myth popularly known as a "happy marriage". Does it actually exist? If it does, why is it that I don't know anyone who has one. Oh sure, there are those who still walk around holding hands and calling each other "darling" and make you just want to stab them to death with a fish fork, but is all that just to keep up appearances or are they really that nauseatingly in love?

Is it just me or does it become impossible to look adoringly into someone's eyes once you know that they are one of the stinkiest pigs around. Or how do you trust a man to lead your household when he cant even replace toilet paper on the spindle?

I think if I had realised that marriage was going to be the one unbreakable contract I was going to make, I would have put a lot more thought into it. Somehow, now the thought of sex whenever I wanted it doesn't sound like a good reason to get married anymore.

So to my single blog voyeurs out there, please , please, please think twice and twice again before taking that plunge. Its seriously overrated.

Just saw the auditions for Michael Chiang's "Private Parts" and am seriously thinking about going for it.
But just to lay out the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Wanted to act in professional theatre all my life
- first time there is an audition which does not require 18 -25 nubile airheads
- might be good lead to hobnobbing with artsy types, even if i dont get a part

Cons
- Do I really have the time?
- Is local theatre pay as shitty as they say it is?
- will I even get a part?

Auditions this Sat and Sun. I have 3 days to think it over. Should I? Should I?

Ok, so this is what this whole blogging this is about. Ok, so, maybe its a bit late to jump on the bandwagon, but now I'm on it, it'll be fun to see if this is edifying or not.

Its the day after a long weekend (yet another one) so it's important to say that I have not done a spot of work yet (and its 3 p.m.) Just hope no one has caught on to that yet. Am still angry with the husband (although I forgot why) and am not talking to him yet. Which is fine by me. Hmm!
