"What?", "Yes?" and "Yes, sir?"

My brother works as a project engineer. Recently he went to have a cup of coffee at a nearby coffeeshop with his Myanma site worker, Tun, and his German project consultant,Hans. Tun was the first one up.

Coffeeshop girl: What?
Tun: 1 coffee please.

Tun takes his coffee and moves aside. My brother is next.

Coffeeshop girl: Yes?
Brother: 1 coffee please.

Brother takes his coffee and stands aside.
Hans is next.

Coffeeshop girl: Yes, sir?
Hans: 1 coffee please.

Hans gets his coffee. My brother could not stand it.

Brother (points to each of them in turn): "What" "Yes" and "Yes, sir". Your coffee still 80 cents a cup.

Yes, colonial thought and prejudice is alive and well in our fair nation. At least, I hope it is prejudice and not bias.

Aunty goes the extra mile for service…

One Indian guy orders chicken chop from the western food stall and asks the aunty whether she can send it to his table when it’s ready. The aunty immediately replies with a strict tone "Self-service!”. So he decided to go to the drinks stall to get a drink first. When he goes back to the stall to collect his chicken chop, he finds the fries soaked in baked beans. The aunty asked him to pay immediately as there was a long queue in front of the shop.

About 15 mines later, a westerner goes to the same western stall to order Fish & chips. The aunty takes his order and immediately says, "Have a seat sir, I'll send it to u when it’s ready". When the Fish & Chips was ready, the aunty makes sure that everything was placed nicely on the plate. She sends it to the table gets the money from him and says "enjoy your meal!"

For your information, fish & chips costs $4.50 while chicken chop costs $5.50 and the westerner paid the exact amount.

Shameful behaviour! And we say "regardless of race, language or religion"

Anonymous - your point is well noted.

Rajah - yes, we do say it. But I wonder how many of us actually think about what that means.
