Heres the history of our medicine.
"I have a sore throat."
2000 BC : "eat this root"
1200 AD : "That root is heathen, say this prayer."
1500 AD : "That prayer is superstition, drink this elixir."
1800 AD : "That elixir is snake oil, Take this pill."
1900 AD : "That pill is ineffective, Take this antibiotic."
2000 AD : "That antibiotic is artificial, Here why dont you eat this root."
This extremely ironic yet truthful glance of "alternative" medicine is provided courtesy of a chat user nicknamed egger on one of my favourite websites http:/bash.org

The Idea of Human Suffering
I had a fascinating discussion today with a net friend about human suffering. He said that growing up in the West, he beleived in the idea of rights, that everyone had the right to basic neccesities etc.
It was only after researching the idea by studying Afghani refugees did he realise that basic needs may not be that basic after all. He said, "just shows me that the right to life and pursuit of happiness is a human idea."
Do we actually look at happiness as the same for everyone. Pastor said recently prosperity is not dependant on how much u have in your bank balance, but how much of your needs are met.I did a quick run down of what my needs are and guess what, I am well on my way to prosperity -Hallelujah!
Good Husband-Check
Good Kid -Check
Healthy -Check
Well fed- And how!!
Roof over head - Not as much as I would like, but ok
So all I need now is money to take a good holiday and take all my friends out to eat and I will be the most prosperous girl in this country.
So go ahead, you casino table players and try and get rich quick.See you if you will be as prosperous as I feel today.
Muahahahaha

Its Thursday, which means its bible study night. So there will be just this short half hearted post.
i want to be a writer.
i dont wanna be a star.
i want to do my own thing.
it doesnt have to take me far.
i just want those who know me
to love me, and not judge me.
Not hold me up to some ideal
they have in their own heads.
Of what a person like me
is, should or should not be.
i just want to write of what
is inherent in me.
Yup, that's it.

FOr a long time I doubted my right to have a say on John Paul and his works because I am not catholic.
But the recent essay by Orson Scott Card on his website www.ornery.org has given me a boldness to note my 2 cents worth here. Well, that and a comment my 5 y old made while watching one of the many tribute tv programmes to the life of JPII.
He watched the show silently with me, perking up only when Jesus Christ is mentioned, because while he knew Jesus, he had no idea who the Pope was. But at the end of the show, he said,' Wow that was a nice man, huh ,mummy? So good." And just as I was smiling with parental pride , he slammed me with," I think maybe he is as good as Jesus."
If a 5 year old child could see that JPII was a man who lived by the ideals of love, joy and peace that our Saviour taught, why did so many adults have a problem with it? Onthe other hand, was his observation of the Pope as someone "as good as Jesus", taking away the glory and adoration that should only be to our Lord and Saviour. It boggled my mind for a while, and I would be intersted to hear what anyone else thinks.

Ok, this blog is now going to head in a new direction , due to personal interest in the subject and the constant nagging of a very good (albeit persistent) friend.
I dedicate this blog to all the great writers who have ever touched my heart, evolved my mind or passed through my hands.
Oh..
And Edgar Allan Poe, for reminding me of what NOT to write about.

I think the most underrated weekend activity is - a nap.
You hear people talk about wild weekends at Bintan or going clubbing or -horrors- cleaning the house. But seldom is the humble nap given its due. I dedicate today's blog post to-- the nap.
As a species we dont sleep enough. This is true. If you believe that God made nighttime for sleeping, then maybe we should spend all of it in bed right. For us lucky folks who live near the equator, thats 7 pm to 7 am sleeping. (Don't feel jealous, you of temeperate climate - if u lived in a place with 99% humidity, you'll wanna sleep more too)
But instead, we have this wonderful thing called electricity. And born of it lights, radio, television, computers - all designed to make us spend more time awake. Keeping us tired, making us work.
But the weekend nap - aah! What a thing of beauty. To curl up in the heat of the afternoon after a large lunch (prerequisite for nap), close the curtains, turn on the air con (or fan, for us poor folk) and sink beneath waves of unconsciousness.
The best thing about the Saturday afternoon nap, is that you can wake up, see that its 4 and - wait for it- turn around and go back to sleep! Because its not like you have to sleep early on Saturday night to prepare for work the next day. Thats a condition attached to the Sunday nap. But Saturday, you can sleep all through to Sunday morning if you like. How cool is that?

How sweetly sleep calls me
at 2 in the afternoon
bliss is spelled as - nap.

Yesterday was another very siong rehearsal - 2 to 8 no less, although i didnt get there till three. It was very entertaining, though because we got to see what the wushu and taekwondo people were doing as well.
The kids are getting very tired. I think we peaked too early and now, with the performance a week away, they are only standing in place and delivering lines. Lets hope the adrenalin rush hits them at just about the tech rehearsal, so we can peak again.
On the lighter side of things. here'a a funny my cousin shared with me
Its easy to write
A haiku; just stop at the
seventeenth syllab....

Yesterday was a bit madcap, so I gave my blog a miss, but in reality, it was the most eventful day ever. I made a potential $2000 for the company (not for me, I remain as poor as a churchmouse, which is actually quite rich.. but I digress...)
Celebrity Spotting
The celeb of the day was Einstein Christianson. I used to work with him on children's events for IKEA during my internship, and was really pleasantly surprised that he recognsed me and actually came up to say Hi. Of course he has gone on to fame and other "cat-astrophic" things (pun fully intended), but he took my email add and promised to stay in touch, which like most celebrity promises, is writ on water. I'm not blaming him, these celeb people have a lot on their minds.
Rehearsal yesterday was "damn siong", to borrow a beng-ism. The kids are all falling sick because of the demanding schedule and everyone is at breaking point, physically and emotionally. Apparently a few tempers were lost and a few tears shed on Saturday. I now feel the need to over perform my contract and be there every rehearsal, so that I can look out for my babies.
(NB: for those who have no idea what i"m talking about, I am helping to direct the drama segment of a musical for Pioneer Junior College's Opening ceremony. It's good work if you can get it.)

Why do some people have to insist on being right all the time? Whatever reasons, you have - childhood trauma, perfectionist syndrome, dunno what the hell you are doing - we are all wrong some of the time right?
And the next time he comes to me with his poor thing, matyr-like , " poor me, so misunderstood, next time I'll just be quiet" drivel, I'm gonna tell me exactly where he can shove it!
Suck it Up, man!! Be gracious in victory and well as defeat. Or didnt NS teach you that?
3 step "Im wrong" programme
- I'm sorry, I was mistaken
- Let use the other brillant idea, which i will not try and usurp as mine and..
- get on with it
Repeat as often as necessary until superiority complex leaves your stupid choleric system.

I wanna talk about the urban myth popularly known as a "happy marriage". Does it actually exist? If it does, why is it that I don't know anyone who has one. Oh sure, there are those who still walk around holding hands and calling each other "darling" and make you just want to stab them to death with a fish fork, but is all that just to keep up appearances or are they really that nauseatingly in love?
Is it just me or does it become impossible to look adoringly into someone's eyes once you know that they are one of the stinkiest pigs around. Or how do you trust a man to lead your household when he cant even replace toilet paper on the spindle?
I think if I had realised that marriage was going to be the one unbreakable contract I was going to make, I would have put a lot more thought into it. Somehow, now the thought of sex whenever I wanted it doesn't sound like a good reason to get married anymore.
So to my single blog voyeurs out there, please , please, please think twice and twice again before taking that plunge. Its seriously overrated.

Just saw the auditions for Michael Chiang's "Private Parts" and am seriously thinking about going for it.
But just to lay out the pros and cons:
Pros:
- Wanted to act in professional theatre all my life
- first time there is an audition which does not require 18 -25 nubile airheads
- might be good lead to hobnobbing with artsy types, even if i dont get a part
Cons
- Do I really have the time?
- Is local theatre pay as shitty as they say it is?
- will I even get a part?
Auditions this Sat and Sun. I have 3 days to think it over. Should I? Should I?

Ok, so this is what this whole blogging this is about. Ok, so, maybe its a bit late to jump on the bandwagon, but now I'm on it, it'll be fun to see if this is edifying or not.
Its the day after a long weekend (yet another one) so it's important to say that I have not done a spot of work yet (and its 3 p.m.) Just hope no one has caught on to that yet. Am still angry with the husband (although I forgot why) and am not talking to him yet. Which is fine by me. Hmm!
